    Miners Lettuce

Just wondering if you folks in the UK have this stuff growing wild. I was introduced to it here in NZ by my brother who is a bit of a forager. Claytonia Perfoliata known here as 'Miners Lettuce' but according to Wiki it also goes by the names of Indian Lettuce, Spring Beauty, and Winter Purslane. Its not native here but originally comes from the West of North America, from Alaska to California. It likely came here with Chinese miners coming from the American goldfields to ours. It was valued in the States as one of the few greens available in winter and early spring to keep scurvy at bay.

Its well worth seeking out as a very palatable salad green.
