Question for the wood workers

I was given an old table made from pine wood. It is not painted or treated in any way,and has a couple of tiny coffeee stains, and some other nicks and marks from use.
Else it is quite nice and we want to use it in the living room. But want to fix it up. Whjat is the best way to treat the surface to make it look good, and easy to clean?
I am thinking of sanding it down and using some kind of oil to treat it.
The wife also want to darken it a little...

I use Danish oil. Sand it back if you want to remove marks etc, clean it then give it a few good coats. It will be easy to clean, and just need oiling a couple of times a year to keep it good.
No different to your axe handle really!

Danish is ok , Tung oil is the dogs whatsiits but you can also use boiled linseed oil..

I've never used tung. What are the advantages?

Why is it that in a drawn vote of one each my wife always has the casting vote?

I do not know about you, but in my case it's mostly because these things are not that important to me. I.e I do noy care what color the curtains are, or the design
of the TV...as long as there are curtains and the TV has enough HDMI ports...

We went to buy paint...
I have payed all the bills, so I am totally skint.
She looks at paint, notice the prices. Goes over to the shelf of oils...grab a bottle pays and leaves.
Oil it is then, hahaha
