...why the place I want to go to, always have to be on the edge between two adjoining maps, where it is guranteed that I won't have the other map I need to plan my trip!

Strange isn't it can you not print off something usable, I found a good map of Norway, I'll see if I can find it ?
EDIT: Here you go, you probably have seen it but I thought it was good

I only use the printer once a year or something, so naturally the printer jets are clogged up...
Else I have better options than that :-)

This is the one I use. Same provider as my paper maps, and in the same format.

The thing with printed maps her eis that they have stopped making them in paper. They are a plasticy material, taht you can write on like before, but it is also almost indestructible, and water proof.
And there is a map on both sides, etc. Also when I print out a map it's hard to get it to teh same 1:50 000 scale I am used to. So it is easier to see distances...i.e a square of 2x2cm is 1km across...
And I can make notes on the map to bring with me...

Ordnance survey do laminated maps. They are a bit more bulky but they're great for British weather.

Yeah the ones I think you mention are Tyvek, I'll admit, I'm using apps more as well these days, when I get out, in fact I used Google maps in Sweden for a location point

I may use the GPS on my phone to pin-point my position, or get a grid, but it is not something I rely on, simply becouse using the phone GPS consumes a lot of battery, so I try to save it
in case I want to listen to music, or for emergencies...
