Thread: Bushcraft spots in Scotland ?

    Bushcraft spots in Scotland ?

Looking to head up Scotland for a few nights to practice some bushcraft skills if anyone could recommend a nice spot ?

Hoping to find a nice conifer forest with a lake or some sort of water source.

I've been looking at galloway forest, would this be suitable for what I'm looking for ?

    Any help is appreciated

galloway forest is a winner! Around loch Ken. pretty much anywhere round there.
If there are no women around and a man says something, is he still wrong?

    Thanks for the reply Thumbcrusher

What is it like with having a small controlled fire near loch ken ? Obviously I'd be leaving no trace

No problem having campfires mate as long as you tidy up after the wardens are ok about it in my experience. there's usually loads of dry driftwood around loch Ken as well.

Good to know I was worried with it being owned by the forrest commissioner.

Originally I was looking at Dry loch, near loch Trool if you've had any experience here ?

not been to dry loch mate but have been to Loch trool canoe camping with no problems. A quick word of warning for trool and any where round there avoid going in midge season! Within seconds you are literally covered in the little b*&%$&s. It's like something out of a horror film!

Haha I've heard they're bad around there! Looking at going this weekend so fingers crossed they stay at bay but I'm going with some smidge and a net to help fend the little buggers off lol

I bet you had a fantastic time canoeing, might consider that myself next time. Were the rangers ok with a small controlled fire on your canoe trip mate ?

Avon Skin so Soft is a good midge repellent. It makes your skin soft too.

Never had any problems with the rangers anywhere in Scotland to be honest. I think as long as you're being sensible and not having a towering infrno you'll be ok especially down on the loch side.
