Interesting thread, this one; I have a half-baked plan to have a wander around Galloway Forest area at the back end of march or early April with just me and my dog, hoping that the weather won't be...
A lot depends on location though; up in the dales, and I would think the North York Moors, there aren't that many trees about on the tops! It could well be a case of collecting bits of whatever you...
I did a few, then inexplicably lost the ability to make them symmetrical - I hope I find it again soon, it aint arf frustrating!!!
...or try Keith Pickering's "the stickman" website, he sells carving gloves for about a fiver. I can't do linkys, but google it and it should come up ok.
Hi folks,
I'm looking to make a natural -and free!- air freshener for the house, any ideas? Can it really be as simple as burning a few pine needles in a tin, or is it more complicated than that?...
Hi folks, having got interested in making walking sticks, I'm progressing a bit from thumbsticks from one piece of wood, to a walking stick that needs a wrist strap, and I want to make it out of...
Like I said earlier, the presence of nukes stopped a war in Europe, but it didn't stop those superpowers having a war, they just made other, poorer nations fight it for them. So whilst WE may have...
If you look into the amount of nazis that actually were tried after the war, the number is frighteningly low - and many had their sentences commuted after only a very few years.
Personally, I think...
Don't worry Ben, I'm a bit confused most of the time...:confused2:
Avon skin-so-soft, works a treat and smells kinda nice too...
Embrace your local avon lady!
Finally got some winter tyres for me car - I still like to get up on the moors with the dogs, especially if it snows a bit. Since I got interested (but not good at, no way!) animal tracks, I'm...
Oh - I was hoping I was doing summat wrong, someone would tell me what, and next thing I'd be producing yards of superstrong cordage...:confused2:
...guess not!
I had a go at nettle cordage, but when it came to separating the fibres into long strips, they just sort of shredded so I ended up with no bits that were long enough to do much with.
I'm getting interested in animal tracks and stuff - not very good at following anything yet, but getting a bit better at spotting stuff. Anyway, read about a 'tracking stick'; can't find out much...
Cheers!
I was just taking the mick, really. That's the kind of thing most survival tins cope with; like you, I can't imagine a circumstance where I'd need to do any of that, although I often can't get a...
Sounds like what is known as a cramp ball fungus over here; I've not spotted any yet, probably just haven't noticed it as it's supposed to be quite common in the UK.
Only if you can get a signal. Not much good for catching a trout, or digging a snow hole.
Or chopping wood...
I'd like an axe, but I also need a reason to use it! Those Gransfor ones, either the small forest axe (dunno what I'd do with it though, a bit over the top for opening a tin of beans) or that little...
Is the idea that you have a survival tin with you at all times, just in case?
I carry stuff in the car, like a spade and bits of carpet in the winter, mebbe an extra blanket chucked in if it's cold...
Yeah, it IS quite funny, that!
Can't seem to find Ray on ITV player, mebbe I'll track Autumnwatch down though. Ta.
I like Ray's programme, but I'm working a night shift tomorrow so I'll miss it - and Autumnwatch!
Oh well, Ray's prog will no doubt be repeated in it's hour long incarnation sometime on Eden or...
The first backpacking trip I did at the age of 15, I borrowed my grandad's pup tent...wooden poles with big wooden knobs on the top for the ropes, single skin, cotton...weighed a ton, leaked like a...
I don't know, but that 'celebrity' one, where they're stuck on their own with a camera for a week (with a doctor, rangers etc, watching over them and on call at any time, day or night) could have...
