I had no idea these existed before your post and little clue what they were after it.
So, I've put my google shoes on and did a bit of research, they look pretty cool :D

It is the wrong time of year for snow here in Cornwall (monsoon like rain and near hurricane strength winds certainly, but snow no) and even when it is the right time of year, we don't get much that snow and rarely 'proper' snow. So as a trip to proper snow territory is not currently on the horizon, I could not justify buying a pair for use as intended.Quote:
Made from soft flexible fabricLaces to secure boot to foot
Leather re enforced band around sole area
Tough under-boot rubber sole
Worn as an over boot for warmth & comfort in the snow
But (oh there is always a but isn't there) these mukluks struck me as being rather similar in appearance as to (and don't laugh) camping slippers, like the snugpak softie tent boots for example, which I have been pondering buying for some time.
Attachment 4943
Now before you all start accusing me of pulling a Casey and shout 'Show us yer Tartan' the main reason I am considering such a purchase, is after a long day walking, it is good to get your boots off, stretch your feet and give them a bit of air. While I was happy to pad around bare foot on the grass at various campsites last year, it wasn't always practical to do so. So in the absence of any alternative footwear, it was a case of putting the boots back on and denying my feet a bit of a breather. Camping slippers might have been a solution on such occasions.
However, when I actually manage to get out for an adventure (hopefully from the end of this month onwards) I intend to go wild and I am wondering if a slipper like the snugpak tent boot or the northface mule, would be as much use on moorland or in the woods as a chocolate teapot in a sauna?
And these camping slippers are rather expensive, so the cost plus whether they would be fit for purpose, has meant my debit card has slept snugly in my wallet, blissfully unaware that I have be contemplating abusing it once again.
But that sleep may now be disturbed as these Mukluks seem to be of a similar design, are also made from soft flexible fabric, but and this may well be the clincher, have a tough rubber sole.
So after rambling around the point, I wonder if you (or anyone else who is familiar with Mukluks) could satisfy my curiosity and let me know if these Mukluks, used in conjunction with suitable sock, would be of any use as wild camping slippers?
Many thanks,
Colin
That is probly the best piece of kit you could have bought for a winter Norway trip. I use the Norwegian army ones . Those are ruberized to about half way up to the knee. So that you can keep your feet dry in wet snow also. If you start to feel cold on your feet, just pull them on over your boots (clean off the snow on your boots first). And then walk around a little, and your feet will be toast in no time. norwegian soldiers use them mostly on guard duty in the field in winter Sort of gets cold to guard a .50 cal when its -25 C. The UK amred forces train in Norway, so I guess they have picked up a lot of our arctic gear....and sometimes improved on it.
I use mine when I go shore fishing in the winter. Never had as much a s a pinky toe complain about the cold.
4 years after my national service year I was in for a retraining excercise in March. It was -20 in the mountains, and we were in tents. The problem was not that really. I was the squad corporal...the problem was that my "squad" consisted of yours truely and a 40 year old taxi driver from Trondheim, who showed up with 10 litres of moonshine, and announced that he was on a holliday from his wife and kids..and proceeded to make sure he did not have to bring any of that home...well, I had to check that the quality was up to standards and helped him get rid of it...*cough*
Anyway to make a long story short....I ended up with an inflamation in the achilles tendon in both feet. Thank you army for issuing brand new boots and not give me a chance to walk them in befoire sending me into the hills. I was sent to a field hospital, whereopn I got some pills, was told by the doc to not wear boots, and sent back into the hills again. I went trough the rest of the excercise wearing mukluks, over two pairs of wool socks for 2 weeks, including the final party before signing off and going home...so yes, you can use them as wild camping slippers...

I think the bushcraft kit suppliers of the UK, Canada and Denmark, should pay Natural Bushcrafts running expenses. This thread must be what keeps the indusry alive in those countries :-)

No need for an apology mate - life,s a lottery you win some - you loose some. I am happy with the price I paid for mine and that's what counts, like you said I have also seen used ones being sold for much more than I paid

- The 'response packs' can be clipped together (I experimented in the shop, boss lady was not happy- again) so along with the two waterbottle pouches (right) I already have, I can now pop out for a wander without a pack, still carry everything I need for a day hike and looka right pillockTHE BUSINESS :)
