bugger, you can tell I haven't fished for a long time! Cheers for the info Paul, save me an altercation with the bailiffs!! Good job we didn't catch anything! When does the season start again, and does it apply to canals?
Cheers!
Phil
Phil you can still legally fish for Trout from 21st March (I think??, local bye-laws vary) using worm, minnows and other stuff that escapes me at the moment, but if you catch a coarse fish (Chub, Barbel, Perch,Roach etc.) you must replace it and move from where you've caught it. The closed season is a joke, it doesn't apply to still waters and canals any more and it doesn't apply to features such as marinas if they're out of the main channel of the river. :confused2:
Look HERE
The two main paragraphs that you need to take notice of at the moment are;
*Lures and baits
*Salmon And Trout Close Seasons
But you should familiarize your self with all the rules. A bankside visit from an EA bailiff is rare but when it happens they're very thorough.
You also need a license if you don't already have one, they throw the book at you, with penalties far worse than being caught driving without insurance.
If you ever fancy a day on the bank, get in touch and I'll take you out!
Thats great info Bob, cheers! Just been checking up on things - I'm off on a narrow boat holiday for the first two weeks of April around Chester and Wales so will read up on their bylaws - looks like I need a Wanderers Permit for me and the stepdaughter.
Thanks for the offer of going fishing too, will take you up on that when we get back from our hols! T^
A rod license will cover you nationally, England, Wales and NI. You'll be okay fishing the canals in April, they're exempt from the close season. I'm assuming your narrow boat is on the canals? If your step-daughter's under 12 she doesn't need a license. Aged 12-16 and a junior license is a fiver!
All canals - we're picking up the boat from Whitchurch, taking it down to Llangollen in the first week, couple of days there and then going backover and up to Chester on the Shropshire Union in the second week before taking the boat back to Whitchurch. Relieved that the closed season doesn't apply to canals as Jess is mad keen on fishing now and can't wait to go! Should be a good holiday - two weeks on a 69' long boat with the family and my parents :) can't wait!
I just walked past Ray Mears at Waterloo East station on my way back from a meeting! One of those double take moments.
Does that count as a daily bushcraft? ;)
Spent the day looking for a lost knife. Turned the hallway where I dump much of my stuff upside down (the sharpies I throw up on a shelf so that the littkle one won't find them.)
Nope, not there. Looked in the shed, and turned that upside down looking for it....nope. 3rd degree interrigation of the older kids...nope. None had seen it. Nor had I since my blizzard hang over a week ago. The nagging feeling that it was lost in the snow started to gnaw at me. And I was seriously contemplating mounting an expedition back to the site to find it. Even called a friend who owns a metal detector!
The knife was secured to the same pistol belt I use for the throw pouch I use as a possibles bag to collect tinder in. And I finally found the bag, hanging on it's peg in the shed. Releived I keep looking for the belt and knife. Nothing turns up. In the car, rumage trough all my bags and rucksacks, nothing...and then I go back to the shed, reach out for the throw pouch...hey, itsheavy but suposed to be empty...I had stuffed the knife and belt inside the pouch to prevent losing it in the snow...
Well, well, now I have to put the house back in order before the wife comes home...
Some day I will learn how to properly policing up my kit. But my wife, kids and former platoon C.O won't take any bets on it...lol
Anyway, trhe reason why everything lives in the hallway once I come home, is that this is where things stays and then slowly migrates to the shed as they drie up, or have maintenance done on them.
