My daily bushcraft

Made a pants leg drawstring bag for my GoSystems flexi-fuel burner.

This thing has been with me everywhere from Iraq, to Sri Lanka, South-east asia, Sudan, Kenya and Ethipoia and saved many a day. You can always find some kind of fuel that it will burn, even if it's just some alcohol poured into the pre-heat pan to boil water for a brew. It's in action in this video:

Been doing some maintenance on it and replaced a lost nozzle as well...

Thanks Paul. I think it's because you have to arrange the coals around the thermometer, when you put them on the lid. I'm guessing it could damage it, if it's continually covered in hot embers, but then again, it might not. For a free mod, it's worth a shot :)

Great bag/pouch there. Another typical bushcrafter project, but normally for tinder, so on a smaller scale.

It is good to be here. Our little one started kindergarten the other day. And we can take a short cut trough the woods to get there.
So I plan to go an look for mushies for the wife on my way home. Got a few days more off. So now...breakfast. Lunch in the woods :-)

We wen't looking for mushies straight after delivering the runt in his Kindergarten. Actually we could go straight into the fiorrest from there, and made our way up into the hills.
Did not film this as I had forgotten the memory card for the cam in it's card reader...

We did not find much mushrooms. A few birch bolette and a handfull of chanterelle. But we found a good patch of cloudberry. Most of it not yet ripe for the picking, but we did get enough to
eat right there, a handfull each. But we should be getting a litre or 3 if we go up there next week, and nobody else have found it. These places are guardeded betetr than state secrets around here. NOBODy will ever tell you where they find their cloudberry, he he. And if somoen finds you picking before they are ripe (if you pick the hole stem of the plant, they will ripen in a few days), you better be a fast runner or prepare to get your fists up. People have been seriously injured fighting over cloudberry here :-)

We finished off by making a small fire, barbecue a few hot dogs and bacon, before going home, as it started to spit a little.
At home I found my nalgene bottle and space saver cup in the mail box....and a few icy comments about it from the wife...whereupon I pointed out the new handbags and shoes
from the Oslo trip...she is not speaking to me...and I have not yet taken delivery of a few other bits of gear on its merry way from commie land...well, well, she'll come around in a few hours.

Would love to live in your part of the world. I know we shouldn't forget what's on our own doorsteps, but you paint the picture so well lol. Might get things organised one day, and arrange a visit to Norway. Also would love to visit Iceland. These things will have to wait though sadly.

You would always be welcome at my place, Crazy. May be a little cramped in the house, but I guess we could always string you up between a couple of trees up in the hills if
the kids get on your nerves ...lol

Anyway, late august is a perfect time, if you are not scared of a few raindrops now and then.

Forgot to mention that I brought my new leather belt pouch out for the first time. It did fine, and the litle bit of rain we had, it shook off nicely due to the beeswax finish I put on.
But i think for serious rain it would have to go in the backpack, as I keep my firekit, tinder and emergency kindling in there...

I am on an island and in mans memory there have never been any bears here. The only 4 legged predators I have seen are fox. And sometimes we hear rumours that someone has seen a lynx.
On the interrior of the mainland across the sound there is bears, lynx, wolverine, and wolf is not that far north of us that it cant wander down here...but nobody has seen the latter since my grandfathers days.

My great-great grandfather was a fanmous bear hunter....and his weapon of choice was a bear spear!
His name was Bjørn Bjørnsen, the name means : Bear, son of Bear!

Just had a sip of water from the Nalgene bottle. Not even a hint of a plastic taste, just pure, clean tap water... he he

Also it fits nicely in my edc bushcraft bag, nested in its cup. But have ordered a separate molle bag for it, that i can either put a shoulder strap on, or attach to my other bag.
So I like it allready.

Allso sadder news. My wood cup and bowl both have developped cracks after all the use with hot water for brews I guess. Well, well, the olicam space saver cup will just have to pick up that slack....
