Back from a week camping on the edge of Dartmoor. managed to light a fire every morning (in an off the ground fire pit before anyone gets tetchy) carved some tarp pegs, skinned and gutted a rabbit (caught by A N Other) foraged some wild edibles (in the company of A N Other, who helpfully shouted "NO!!!!" when I approached anything potentially fatal), mostly bilberries, had a good old wander around the moor and generally had a rollicking good time ;)
I had a credit card that belonged to A N Other. Had a really easy number to remember on it, 1234 5678 9000 0000 :p
Yesterday I was out in a fantastic piece pristine woodland beauty, found a great place by a river to do a spot of fishing, found some earth balls fungus (non edible by the way!!!) see below

Also started a fire to christen my new billy can (which we had permission to do also!)

Heated some boil in the bag ration packs (Chicken and herb dumplings!! Mmmmmmmmm!!)
Then when the heavens opened proceeded to scramble under a tree in my poncho to eat said ration pack!
Luckily I had great company and the rain eventually passed cleaned up packed up and shipped out!
Can't wait till the weekend now when I'm out for a two nighter!!
Got a couple of items in the post today. First it was a couple of new fuel nozzles for my GoSystems Flexi-fuel burner. I use this with parafine as well as butane. In winter parafine is the thing for a quick brew up. I lost the nozzle this spring while doing some field maintenance as the nozzle had clogged up. Finally got that replced and also got a spare set for it.
Also my new one-man cooking pot arrived. About the size of my home made billy-can tin, so shoukld hold the same things. Here is the manufaturers pictures of it...will appear in a video soon.

Decided to add a thermometer to my dutch oven today, just because I had one, and it seemed like a useful addition :)
A BBQ thermometer, next to the lid of the dutch oven...

The thermometer didn't cost me anything, and I already had plenty of drill bits, in varying sizes.
Got another part of the kit, a foldable windscreen. I expect the burner for it to arrive any day now as well, so waiting for the kit to be complete. Then I plan to make a
"My cooking kit" vid...there are hundreds of them out there, so it's not an original idea...but what the heck...it's all been done in some form before anyway, only the location and people change...
What a great idea, makes you wonder why there not made like that to start with! . Paul
