My daily bushcraft

Roughed out an ivy hearth with my axe, to use for hand drill. Did It during lunch break at work.

currently off poorly at the moment.. but working as a gamekeeper i use what iv learnt from bushcraft on a daily basis... usually animal tracking and trapping, often have my lunch over open fire in the woods,,... all night stake out for foxes in the woods... to name afew.. has really helped me in my career :D

Let's keep this thread going, me thinks...
So , last week I posted on "what have you bought now..." thread, that I had purchased a ( Japanese ) whetstone and nagura.
I was so amazed at the results, wow , my bushy is scary sharp now...[emoji33]
anyways , due to the fragile nature of these rather expensive stones, I made a box to contain the sharpening kit safe and in one place.
I'm chuffed with it as it was all made just from Ply offcuts.
Even the piano hinge came off an old cabinet that had been skipped at work.[emoji41]
And the foam pads were from a parcel delivered ages ago.

Now I just need a clasp and a couple of coats of linseed oil...

Also dried some tinder fungus that I found yesterday in the woods ( King Alfreds cakes) , and stored them in my fire kit bag.

My Bushcraft effort this weekend was taking my kids up to Savernake forest and trying out ,

(A very generous present from a true gentleman ,member of this community, Mr. David-JAFO, as a thank you for sending him some flint...),
A couple of topnotch steel strikers, straight off the anvil! [emoji298] [emoji298] [emoji298]
These just spit out Sparks like nobody's business , I'm new to the primitive method, as I have always used ferrocium, but it took me no time to get a crampball fungui lit. [emoji244]

What a satisfaction that is..
Primitive is the way .

I had built a bow drill a couple of years ago but failed to light up.

This time I didn't really know if it was going to work, as all the flint was soaked but...
yep , no worries at all.

Here's a picture of my little boy 's fire kit now, complete with Steel striker.
Clockwise: Top left is his brand new steel striker (Hudson bay, Ray Mears) , right is some King Alfred's cakes, underside is some dried birch bark ( outer) and a sharp Flint stone found in Savernake.

This weekend got a couple of cutlery drainers from IKEA , and made a couple of the very famous IKEA stoves for me and for a friend.
Just need the 6mm threaded bar and some wingnuts , or some tent pegs as instructed on another thread on here.
Brilliant simplicity, stainless steel and well within the realms of budget Bushcraft... Less than £4 each .

:oops: sorry I missed this thread. Woody calls himself an amateur? :campfire: LMAO :p A couple of pop can stoves (if they fit) inside the cutlery drainers from IKEA & there you go. :wink:
