View Full Version : The £7 Challenge

I just logged in to Amazon and saw that I still had £7 credit.
It must have been there for many months because I can't remember the last time I bought anything off Amazon.
And since I had forgotten about that lost £7 it got me thinking - what can I buy with it? I'd rather spend it than let Amazon take it off me when the expiry dates comes about.
Nothing immediately sprung to mind.
So that's my challenge to you - what bushcraft/outdoor related item can I spend my £7 on? Obviously, it has to be from Amazon and the total price has to include postage (I don't really use Amazon so I have no intention of buying any more top up gift cards). Obviously, include a link to the item. Feel free to come at it as literally or as laterally as you like.
I look forward to seeing what you can recommend...

Good ol' Tenacious Tape.
Every adventurer should have a roll or two of that - ideal for fixing holes in tarps and tents. And it just gets stronger the longer it's been on!
But I already do have some Tenacious Tape. And I do already have a mossie net and head net.
But good suggestions none the less.

Now, if you haven't tried these you will think they're expensive... but they're delicious and the best in their class .
Essential part of my brew kit...
( Well ok, not essential but a treat...)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Clif-Bar-Energy-Chocolate-Chip/dp/B0054RPY7I
Have a try. Lots of different flavours.
No need to thank me...
😉
Edit.
Link goes onto Amazon.com for some reason [emoji53] so just swap the ".com" bit for " .co.uk " and it should show correctly....
Sorry

Those Fatwood sticks in a little tin are OK...little ziplock bag and a few strips of rubber will cost you nowt and do the same job (from a naked flame).

Sure, even if the rubber is wet.
..but the maya sticks scrapings (powder) will take a spark as well as a flame... just no good if they're wet.

These are essential in a FAK where axes or knives are in use.
If you've seen a nasty injury from a sharp implement, then you know plasters and little bandages just don't cut the mustard....
So here, only £4 with free delivery

You could probably pick up a Collins GEM book (or two) for under £7.
Then there's water purification tablets.
Paracord? You can never have too much string when bushcrafting.
OS Map?
Or there's inflatable sheep.......
It's all there. ;)

The field studies Council publish a range of small, specific field guides in a kind of fold out laminated leaflet format. They're just a few quid each and they sell them on amazon. I've used a few of them in the past and they're really handy...

Yes, essential for a FAK but... many blade wounds are on the hands/fingers and applying a 4" dressing could be very awkward to apply, always carry smaller packs of gauze as well and practise your direct pressure/dressing techniques at home.

100% agreed !
Definitely the small gauze tubes too and practising at home...
though as a level 3 first aider and after a few years of experience in the field you learn these little tricks... like folding the dressing lengthways ,( turning the 4" into a 2" ) and then turning it the other way ...
😉
Well done Humakt, good thread here! I expect this will go on , even though you found your £7 Amazon deal...

I got a bunch of these, including the large trauma ones...all from the Norwegian army, as these are the ones I am trained to use, so there will be no faffing about if and when I have to use one. Got one in my FAK, and one in every bag and rucksack I use.
