Evening One & All,

I'm in need of a woodland to stay in; one evening next week I'm going to be in Penzance, Cornwall with a friend, so I'm looking for a land-owner who might have a bit of woodland that wouldn't mind the two of us camping in.

If you own some woodland in or around Penzance and wouldn't mind two very friendly hobos spending the night in your wood then please get in touch! Obviously we are very respectful to the land and will leave no trace.

Or if you know a friend who might be obliging then please put us in touch. It would mean a lot.

Ashley; I'm still looking myself mate!! There isn't a huge choice but there are still small copses to find; the few I've spotted have miserable landowners! I'm working on a landowner who does a bit of forestry work who might be approachable. I might not have an answer by the weekend but I'll try mate

Appreciate the input guys. It would be Thursday evening next week so 22nd we would be down that way, no need to approach new land-owners on my behalf though, I don't want to get pushy with dates a ruin your chances.

I don't know if this is a little too far away but Steeple Woods Nature Reserve in St Ives is a public open woods run by volunteers. I tried some time last year to contact them about overnight camping, but, like a lot of them, they never get back to you.

This place has been used as a regular camping spot for years by local kids and stealth campers, so I don't think one night is going to make a difference.

The link below is about Steeple Woods

I know this is a little further away than Penzance but the old wood might be ok for an overnighter.

A bit late on this but there are a few woods which are suitable for a bit of bushcraft/stealth camping in the Penzance area. There`s Trevaylor woods off Gear Hill, it`s public access but not sure about legality of camping there overnight, plenty of hiding places though. It`s fairly large and has a decent stream running through it, perfect for bushcraft. Access is easy, you can park in the lane and walk down to the woods.
There`s also a small piece of woodland up the footpath from Penzance youth hostel on Castle Horneck Road. It`s owned by the farm adjacent to it. The farmer seems friendly, it has a stream, and there is some kind of stone seating area with a fire pit so it is used by maybe scouts or similar. Might be worth asking at the farm for future reference.
There`s also a sloping wood called Mount Misery just behind where I live. There is no water source but there is evidence of people camping/bivvying overnight there on occasion.

No probs bud. If you want to waste a few hours one weekend, along with anyone else who wants to tag along, I can take you to all three sites so you will have a better idea of where they are. Two are within 15-20 minutes walk from the local pub (Pirate Inn). Trevaylor will need driving to, I`ve got a motor so can give a lift there to anyone who needs it.

Cheers mate! I know the farm up Castle Horneck you speak of; has a public footpath running through it, use it for students and basic nav. Never noticed the potential for a camp before!!

That`s the farm, if you look for the stream beside it there is a small bridge before you get to the farm. There`s a small wooden gate, go through it and follow the stream up, you`ll come to a small waterfall, and beyond that are a couple of drained ponds, a tree swing and the stone seating area I mentioned.
