Homebase Wooden Spoons

hello,
Yesterday I was in Homebase DIY store. A young lad was playing with a piece of jute cord with 3 wooden spoons affixed. I asked his dad if he made them? He replied they were on sale in the bargain bucket. So I had a browse through such & there were a few of these on sale for 50p (normally £2.50) so I purchased x2 sets. There are 3 spoons tied together with a piece of jute cord Large soup type spoon, tea spoon, & a rounded edge curved handle spoon. Very good quality carved BTW. Usually on sale in the kitchen ware section of the store. I'll post some pictures when I get around to it, for now I've given them a very light sand & treated with some veg oil to bring out the grain. I'll keep these for my next outing. Not bad for £1.00 well spent.

Lightly sanded & freshly oiled. May affix some hemp cord to the ends to finish them off.

Bamboo? I'm unsure as it has an unusual grain in the wood, doesn't feel like bamboo.. I'll find out what type next visit to store check the tags on the remaining sets. There were no details on the set only hemp cord & price tag. The large spoon 8" inch, rounded spoon 6" inches, & teaspoon 5" inches in length.

I think it was the grain pattern of the wood that was the teaser eh? Yes they're quite solid enough. I've tried & tested at home not field tested as yet. Definitely a spare one in the rations kit as a 'race spoon' :wink:

A lot of wood products from the far east are made from Rubber trees. Once they stop producing sap they are felled and new ones planted. It's a good soource of cheap timber for them.
