I have been looking for campsites that allow campfires and was surprised at how little info there is. So I thought I would start this thread and hope others will add campsite they know of or have been to. A website link would be nice if Admin will allow.
So to start the ball rolling I have 2:

http://www.blackberrywood.com/#About

http://www.freewebs.com/holestationcampsite/

Now this one is interesting as it has pictures of 3 lads. Caption reads: These guys (Russel, Ian and Will) came to Hole Station to practice their bushcraft skills. If you are any of these guys I would be interested in your views of the Hole Station.

:campfire:

Thanks
Ian

Ashely has a small list on the main website, but it is a bit hard to find these days. Anyway, a search came up with this:

http://www.naturalbushcraft.co.uk/bushcraft-friendly-campsites-farmers-landowners-find-your-perfect-camping-location-and-have-per.html

Would be great to get a more full listing going.

To anyone planning to post details here, please ensure that sites posted are with the permission of the land owner. NaturalBushcraft can't condone or promote the illegal use of land for camping or any other purpose, furthermore, I'm sure Ashley doesn't want to get a load of grief off landowners complaining that their 'campsite' was 'advertised' on here.

I am a bit new to this so i am not on any sites, but i allow fires at my place, and if common sense prevails there are no rules as such

Hi,

I'm Russ from the picture at Hole station - myself and Ian go camping there quite often. The site is great - its very refreshing to be able to camp in the woods and be 'bushcrafty' in our hammocks! I love waking up in the morning and watching the wildlife while being surrounded by trees, then getting the fire going and putting a billy of tea on while we chill out....

Infact Greg, the owner actually encourages people to be basic campers - he is one himself, and when the site is quiet he can often be found trying out his new tent / tarp /meths heater / tepee etc etc.

Greg and Liz are very friendly, and will also help any uninitiated to sort their fires out, find stuff to do in the area, and will even rent you a tent if you want one.

I'd recommend the site to friendly people who like quiet camping, cooking over the camp fire, and are more basic campers. If you like loud R&B, have a union jack tent, steal firewood or suspect that shameless was based on you, Greg will however chase you off site faster than you can ask 'tynchy stryder' to pass you another WKD.

Hope you give it a go!

Thanks Russ, we will be visiting it this year. What is Shameless and who is Tinchy Spider? I who what a WKD is as my girls drink it. Sounds like the perfect site for us.

No worries :)

In answer - Shameless is a comedy series about super-chavs eeking out an existence of crime, and tynchy strider is one of those trendy chart rappers - imagine the kind of crap you hear from barry boys driving around and you've got it!

My point was basically that Hole Station isn't a party place, like the big flat camp sites with games rooms etc - i think many of us know what its like to get a caravan full of badly behaved kids, or a tent of teeny bopper glastonbury re-enactors etc - it ruins your weekend basically, and a lot of camp site owners just expect it now. Hole Station is different - Greg has vowed to never have more than his 18 pitches, never to supply power, hook ups, yurts or hard standings, plus there is a no noise, no radios and no musical hippies rule.

I truly love these rules because the result is that the site is friendly, relaxing, unpretentious and unspoiled. Also, there is also a warm welcome for people who are used to the latter commercial campsites but who want to be a bit closer to nature and experience the joy of fire gazing and stories by the camp fire (and a bit further away from sharing a pitch with the Royle family).

I really hope you guys have a good time there!
