Some time ago I had some success with a homemade wood gas burning stove but fell out of love with it because typically the places I go do not provide a source of " found stuff " as fuel...

Short of carrying large bags of bulky wood fuel around it became impractical as a camping/hiking stove ...

However since discovering the compressed wood pellets used as cat litter , it has become more practical as the wood pellets are such a dense fuel , burn times are extended and the bulk of fuel required much less ...

One stove full of " found fuel " would burn for 10 - 20 minutes depending on type of wood ... a stove full of wood pellets burns well for an hour and a half !!!

I recently purchased some food flasks cheaply at a boot fair ... but they were inefficient and didn't keep things warm for very long , so I wondered how easy it would be to convert one into a wood gas burning stove ...

Hi ian c ...

Thanks for the interest , have put the stove 1 & 2 links up ( and some gratuitous swirly flame piccys too )

the stainless steel storage pots with the clip lids and the tea/sugar/coffee pots were available quite cheaply in Wilkinson's though that was about two years ago now !!!

I left the clip lids on , as I could pre-fill the stove with wood chips or twigs , clip down the lid and it was all contained ...

Thanks for all the thumbs up guys

Cheers Whistle
