Looking at 100 litre or thereabouts bergans. One of my canditates is the Snugpak "Bergen". But a little worried about the hip belt. Someone told me these packs are millitary ones and made to be carried over millitary web pouches etc, so the hip belt does not sit on the hips, helping to take the load off your back?

Is that true?

Anyone in the know?

I remember reading that somewhere as well. Can't confirm it though...

I have one and there's no probs with the hip belt. It's robust and will sinch in fine when pulled.

I do have an issue with quality with mine though. It's brand new and has been out three time; twice with the rocket pouches attached.
Where the shoulder straps attach to the top of the sack it's showing signs of stress already and I can see daylight through the stitching.
Also, the stretch pockets on the side (visible with side pockets detached) are torn on one side already and it's had nothing but a FAK stored in it.
I'm contacting the manufacturer this week to see what they have to say.

Other then the issues mentioned I love the pack!

Shop around for price though. I got mine from here (http://www.outdoorgb.com/p/snugpaks_bergen_rucksack/) (no affiliation etc).
