German Army Sleepmats

I have a good self-inflator for most use and a really thin Highlander reflective type mat ( i seem to remember) for lightweight sleeping (its in a czech sleeproll). My question is as i am looking at a bit more comfort in the light set-up, has anybody used these mats - The folding German ones like this?

I've never used the German fold up mats, but I have used the Dutch issue foam roll mats. They're 15mm against the usual 10mm, so a little more comfy for practically zero extra weight .. :)

I have one. It is not that heavy at all and folds up to about the size of a volume of the Encyclopaedia Britannica (and when folded it fits snugly and provides a solid back for my Austrian ALICE pack).

Works well in between the layers of my DD hammock, but it is completely useless if ground dwelling (but to be fair when ground dwelling I find most roll mats useless too).

Only half a centimeter thick doesn't strike me as being thick enough to provide any real comfort!

I've got the dutch 15mm roll mat as mentioned earlier and it's very comfortable for not too much weight. Highly recommended!

Yup, that.
No good for sleeping on, to be honest.
But makes a good sit mat or slip in your hammock (not man enough to keep you warm on a cold night, however).
They're tempting because they fold flat and you can put them in your pack to give it shape if your pack doesn't have any frame (it's what they were designed for). But of very limited use.
I've had two. I tended to use the first one as something to put an inflatable/self-inflating mattress on when ground dwelling so not stones or sticks poke through and puncture the mattress. When it died I bought a new one. Which I've never used since.
But they are no where near thick enough to provide a good night's sleep on. All they'll do is even out the lumps and bumps.

I used to have one. Super light weight but sacrifices warmth
Great for on the move down the back of a heavy pack for comfort or a quick seat but comfy it isn't.

Well i sleep ok on just the czech bedroll with the foil backed mat inside the bag below the woolly/fleece bottom lining. It does not iron out any bumps but keeps me insulated (certainly during late spring thru to early autumn). Bump-wise just be carefull when picking your spot :) . Anyway im going to give the German mat a go. Ill let you know how i get on.
