Hello everyone. Today I had (finally!) a chance to get out and go to the woods.
My son and I found this spot and we just love it. So we decided to practice some skills.

We used an air rifle with 0.177 inch pellets to get our food. We saw some "small turks" (Zenaida Meloda) and we got two of them for food.
We used bark from dead papaya trees and a ferro rod to start the fire and cook our food.

One of the things we learned is to work with the wind towards building a good fire. This afternoon was really windy, but we managed to use this wind in our favor to keep the embers and flames.

We used green flexible branches from an acacia to hold our meal and expose it to the fire.

We also practiced our knife skills in skinning these small birds. Thatīs where a really sharp blade comes useful, because the skin on these birds is very thin, so you need a very keen edge on your blade to cut the skin without damaging the flesh or hitting the small guts.

It took about ten minutes to cook, and we enjoyed a tasty (tastes like smoked turkey, only very small!) meal.

Here are the pictures.
