I bought my first shotgun today; a secondhand Italian Armi Famars.

With a weight og 3135 g, a barrel lenght of 70 cm and 113 cm overall lenght, this is a not too heavy and fairly compact gun. Which, combined with a 1/2 choke on both barrels, makes this a very versatile gun, suitable for fowling on both land and at sea - as well as bigger game hunting, up to roe deer.

The gun has some dings in the wood, but the barrels and action looks almost brand new. This gun has not seen much use. I bought it at the hunting store in Aarhus where I used to work, before I changed to my current job. Needless to say; I got a good price from my old boss :)

Excellent looking gun you bought there. Where you on the lookout for a gun with dual triggers? I was glad to have found my beretta 686 as a used gun in a similar condition as yours with a single trigger. The etching on the bascule is beautiful.

Congrats to your new gun, happy hunting and always safe shooting!

Dual- or single trigger, for me it was of no importance really - both has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

Yeah, it's not bad - Armi Famars has always been know for their beautiful etching and engravings :)

Armi Famars has been in business since 1967. Today the company concentrates solely on expensive bespoke high end guns, but they used to make some very fine mid priced guns as well - like this one, which is probably from the late 80's/early 90's.

When people today think about Italian guns, most people think Beretta - but it was Armi Famars who managed to really put Italian guns on the global hunting market. Before, that most guns produced in Italy were for the local market. The global market then was dominated by German, British and Spanish manufacturers.

Not the best pics sorry. The Beretta is 2 years younger then me, and 12G S/S and .410 are both from the 60's.

I checked the registration code on my beretta 686 once. And if i remember correctly it's from 1984. When i picked it up in the shop after trying a merkel, remingtons, etc etc i immediatly knew that that was my gun. Lovely swing and worked right away for me on the clay pigeon stand. Pigeon hunting in january was a dream.

Although i had to learn the hard lesson that clay pigeon shooting and the real thing have nothing in common. Missed ducks and pheasants coz nothing on the stand can prepare you for the surprise second when a pheasant suddenly takes off. Ducks are bloody fast. Have to get used to that...:p

Baikals usually have a short stock and a long handle.

Just spent the evening at the range shooting clay pigeons - I can happily report that the gun shoots well, I just wish I could say the same about myself :ashamed:

Indeed :)

I have just ordered a Pachmayr recoil pad; www.pachmayr.com/home/deceleraton-slip.php to give the stock some much needed extra lenght and recoil absorption.

Has that stock been cut down at some time?
Not as far as I'm aware... it has the original rubber/plastic butt on the end, I've been under there and it doesn't look too modified that I can see.

I was starting to think you'd been kidnapped Ash ;)I had mate, it was only thanks to my trusty Baikal I made it away from the tribe of pygmies that held me hostage!

Have you had any luck with that new gun of yours out in the field Jacob? Anything for the pot or has clay remained your only prey?

Not yet... I apparently lack the sort of contacts one needs to get invited to a hunt - even though I work in a hunting/fishing/outdoor store :(

That's a nice looking gun, Jeep. Is it chambered for 3'' or 3 1/2'' mags, or just 2 3/4''. Here we have steel shot rules &regs, so to get a decent
weight of shot in the air, you pretty much have to go magnum. Same rules over there?
