heres a chance for those that missed the last one in MAY,anyone interested in a hang / camp at bush farm at west knoyle? its where the wilderness gathering is held, ime thinking of sat night to sunday day,ie night of 29th JUNE.

Woodland Camping £7 per person per night, wood available for a fire ,toilets, showers, secure parking, shops within 3 miles also on site, and if paid in advance i could pick up local rough cider or perry at £10 a gallon. could have a communal stew if wanted. would be a great chance to have a chin wag,and show of your kit not forgetting the bring and buy/swap table

How do?

Just wondering how often these happen, i'm a big bushcraft fan but the wife isn't, we're going camping soon and i'm going to work on slowly getting how more into the bushcraft side, suggested it to her earlier and she is keen! W'ere in north devon at the moment but hopefully moving to the prettier side of the border towards Newquay late this year (Fingers crossed for the promotion board!) and such will be lookingto get more involved with local bushcrafters.

Cheers! Steve.

Hello Justin,

Just to make life interesting my shift swap may now be in peril, meaning I could be working Friday night / Saturday morning. So I'm wondering, would it be possible to turn up Saturday afternoon / evening and stay through 'til Monday (perhaps even Tuesday) to justify the trip up Wilts way?

Is there anybody going to this meet that can help me with my knife sharpening skills. No matter how hard I try, I always end up getting it wrong. I have always been told that I am 'cack handed' so this might be part of the reason why I always end up with a blunt knife after a few minutes.

Thanks Neil

not sure how many in total but around 15 or so,last month we expected 10 and got 25 month before got only a few.depends on weather a lot i recon, but there is a huge amount of room pitch 5 would hold 5 4 man tents and 20 or so hammocks .

the shop sells bags of seasoned logs for £6.00 each and i will be bringing a fair bit myself from home,so if anyone wants to bring or buy some for the communal fire it would be handy.

Looks like I will be okay to attend this weekend. Weather forecast seems good. Won't be bringing any wood but happy to buy plenty when I'm there. Looking forward to meeting some new faces and having a chin wag round the fire. Would love a closer look at your bucksaw Justin, fancy making my own when the right wood turns up. Will be filling the car with way to much kit so hope we can get near the site for off loading. Should be there early afternoon Friday :)

Only two more sleeps before my youngest and me travel up to meet you all. I have a dodgy back, the throat feels like I have been swallowing razor blades but I won't let this put me off. I think it will have to be a tent with an airbed this time but I might bring the hammock and see how it goes.

Look forward to meeting you all there.

Not long been back and already I'm wishing I could sleep in a hammock a few more nights. Oh well, roll on the next one! Thanks to all of you for making me feel so welcome! Special thanks to Justin for his lesson in knife sharpening and Chris for his with making fire by friction and for the King Alfred cakes. I learnt so much from you all I really cannot thank you all enough. Everyone was so willing to share information and all were very patient with a newbie asking so many questions. Wonderful weather, great food, had a ball! Oh and to anyone thinking of going to any future meets, try the medium Perry, it's awesome!

Well, that was fun. Big thanks to the Fish clan for inviting me and for all their efforts including a hearty curry which went down a treat. Feel I have made some new friends now and looking forward to meeting up again in the future. The venue was better than I expected. Instead of drifting off to sleep to tawny owls, it was bison and donkey sounds. Thought the Rolling Stones would have popped over from Glasto for some quality company after their gig but guess they got held up :)

A great weekend! Many thanks to Mr and Mrs Fish and their crew, especially my new mate 'Bob'. Good to meet a new bunch of friends. Bison Farm turns out to be an idyllic spot for first-timers, newbies and ladies with 'concerns' - wild enough to practice the skills but with civilised amenities close to hand. Looking forward to the next time.

Having just finishing the second of the double shifts that put the knackers on my attending, to say I am a little gutted I did not make this one, would be quite an understatement.

It sounds like you all had a grand time, skills have been shared, old friendships rekindled, new friendships forged. I sure one or two of you had a polite snifter and a chuckle around the camp fire too. It is what it is all about isn't it?

I look forward to seeing the pictures.

This was the furthest meet that I have traveled to since becoming a member of the forum and it was worth the near 200 mile trip to be part of it. Bison Farm is just a wonderful place to hold a meet and it is just miles from anywhere. It was great to meet new friends and my daughter Becky was in her element, exploring the farm with the kids in between numerous visits to the farm shop to buy sweets and drinks.

Mine hosts Mr and Mrs Fish are a credit to the bushcraft community and their kids certainly left a long lasting impression with Becky who spent most of her time with them. The camp curry was to die for and the local Cider was excellent, even though a visit to the bathroom was urgently needed at about seven in the morning !!.

This was the first time propper that I have stayed in a hammock and I'm now wondering why I didn't do it years ago. I didn't sleep a wink all night, I don't know why but it was so, so comfortable. The sound of the dawn chorus was amazing, sounds that I have never heard before filtering through the warm early morning sun. I wish I had a pound for every time Becky asked if we could stay another day but sadly we had to be back for school.

To everybody that attended, I thank you all for making our stay so memorable.

Fish, well what can I really say but thanks mate, we loved your company and hope to spend more time with you and your family again in the future.

Neil
