Don't want to speak too soon but I haven't had to delete any spam posts for 24hrs now. Hopefully, the hard work that Ashley and Ryan have been putting on in the background are paying dividends now. :)

You can ban IP's and we do, however there are ways around it and they know them now. These are multiple spammers that we're dealing with. We are also not the only forum that's been hit with this and they had a battle on their hands as well. We can only do our best guys.

Not upset Ben, probably a slightly more pro-active answer from me, infact you probably just asked what a lot of people were thinking, so it does us a bit of a favour. A quick and easy explanation. ATB

I guess people on forums are fighting a losing battle against spammers.

There isnt really a way you can stop it completely.

I might have to try something similar, however I'm a little worried with the amount of registrations we get it might be a pain in the neck, I'll see.

Thanks for your support everyone, the forum is still young and we are still tweaking systems (when I get time :( ) to combat the spam, eventually we will get there :)

In my opinion, the current level of spammers is pretty easily manageable by the current moderating team. It seems that mostly it is dealt with within minutes, unless it comes in the middle of the night, in which case it is dealt with first thing next morning.

Hopefully, it is under control and we won't have to change our modus operandi just because of their outrageous behaviour.

This issue from my perspective is that I've gota put in a lot of time/research into greatly reducing the numbers of spammers getting into the forum in the first place; as although like you say we're dealing with the spam very quickly and when people come on chances are they will most likely see none... but... when these spammers post on threads people have talked on it automatically emails everyone the spam, that's what I'd like to protect against.

So it'll mean plugins for protection & changes to the user registration process - all of which will take time to implement.

You could use existing user confirmation, get a user of say > 50 posts, have them validate the first 10 posts the new user makes...most human spammers would give up and most spambots will just fail

If people are worried about getting so many emails they can turn it of in there settings and just check for updates on here I'm sure :) It doesn't bother me so I left it on.
