I hooked up with the guys north of the border for some canoe camping at the weekend, a very chilled out affair, mostly spent under the 'chute dodging the rain and chilly winds. It was good to be back up there and I hope to get a lot more in again this year, some pics ...

A nice weekend despite the rain and the chill, Josh caught a nasty bug and spent most of the trip in bed, get well soon mate. We had the usual lottery of whether we'd make it back to the mainland again this morning, the winds had really picked up over night and the forecast wasn't great. Once we were all up we made the quick decision to pack and get out of dodge while we still could, there'd been a lull in the wind and we managed to get away in good time, timing it nicely before it got a bit squally again.

Looking forward to the next one lads.

Lol.. You can just imagine.. Late at night, sat round the fire, belly full of beer, and then these eyes looking at you from outside the chute. You look closer as your heart starts to race and you see a kangaroo.. WTF..!!

Thanks mate, it's always nice to get to Lomond before Ned season starts

Cheers Jonny, the stove was very good, not mine unfortunately but it's now on my want list. Once the burn was established it chugged along for ages without any extra fuel needed, easily charging phones and ipods at the same time. Clever bit of kit.

Thanks BJ

Lol, yeah we knew they were there, I remember the first time I went a few years ago and I was never sure if it was a wind up or not. I don't think I actually saw one on the first trip but I managed to ever since. That last shot is where they all hang out, there's clusters of thick conifers which they must shelter under when the weather comes in.

I've often wondered what their Oz cousins would make of them now, despite the funny accent :)

Excellent post, really enjoyed the story/pictures. You lucky lot, well done fella's.

Thanks butch

reminds me of a guard briefing we had at a military camp in Scotland warning us that if we saw mini kangaroos we werent going mad but they were wallabies that had escaped from the local wildlife park

they can even charge small torch's!

$129 plus is a bit heavy for me at the moment but i will keep them in mind.

Great pictures Rich, it looks like you had another great adventure.

The Wallabies are a bit mad. I imagine if you didn't know they were roaming free up there, the jolt you would get on being woken in your hammock by a mini skippy, trying to alert you to the fact little Billy was trapped down a mineshaft, two valleys over; would certainly help digestion :D

Thanks for sharing T^

You can get these at The Bushcraft Store (http://www.thebushcraftstore.co.uk/biolite-camp-stove---forget-the-fuel-charge-your-gadgets-12723-p.asp) for £149.95, which is no less heavy.

If you like the idea, but not the price, you may want to consider a DO/Bushcraft It Yourself option.

Thermoelectric Generator (http://Thermoelectric Generator PELTIER) £12

It would require a bit of fiddling, but could be a very handy addition to your pack. And, you can get an idea of the fiddling that would be involved from this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNDxkXVjRFU&feature=youtu.be) video.
