Very sad news, first passing I've heard of on this forum. Being new I never really got to know him but he seemed like a gent. Tragically young!

It took me a while to get my head around it on Facebook, cos I couldn't believe what I was reading and thinking it must be some other Al or something.
This is Al if anyone doesn't recognise the name..

WOW!
That's just awful. I really looked up to Al.
Al was such a gentleman, and always brought a kind, caring and levelled word to everything.
He could bring balance to a heated thread and promote calm with a single response.

His passing is the world's loss, and a great one at that.
I'll think of Al, staring into my future camp fires, I'm sure!

RIP Al. X

Thats a big shock.
I was only in correspondence with him in the last couple of weeks and he sent me a couple of cattys in return for some stuff I'd sent him. A real gent

Anyone know what happened to him?
The Facebook link doesn't work and I'm not FB savvy.

He'll be missed here.

Yeah, same here.

Its really strange that even though I never met the guy and I have only 'known' him for just under a year, I feel like I have lost a mate that I haven't seen for a while, if you get my drift.

I'm having a drink to you now buddy, cheers, will meet up with you sometime.

WTH!?!?!?! Al was a great friend, and a kick butt supporter of my knife work. Link is dead, what happened?

Here's Al's FB page, dunno if you can see it without, doesn't say anything, didn't even have him on my friend list, but he was very active on my STKR Knives page, always quick on the draw with a compliment, loved the guy!

You need to be a FB friend to see the message I guess. This is what it said..

"Unfortunately on Thursday Allen suddenly passed away. It was shock to us all but he will be remembered as a caring man who could always make you smile. We will let you know about funeral arrangements but in the meantime if you would like to post your memories it would be greatly appreciated."

I still do not know how he died, but it seems he had been in some pain for quite a while.

Good-night! good-night! as we so oft have said
Beneath this roof at midnight, in the days
That are no more, and shall no more return.
Thou hast but taken up thy lamp and gone to bed;
I stay a little longer, as one stays
To cover up the embers that still burn.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
A fine gent knowledgable and kind......a pleasure to have shared our time with.

The cattle dies;
friends dies,
Die yourself you will;
But the words about you
never dies,
If you win the good words from friends
(Haavamål 10th century Norse poem)

You won the words, Al....

Al was one of natures gentlemen, and he touched many lives, I am still taken aback when looking at posts; as I scan down I see one from Al. So I can believe he's still here and I think this forum will keep him with us.
