I have just bought a diamond knife sharpener from Aldi, 4 sided in a box with anti slip feet. 200, 300, 400, and 600 grit sides. About £7 . Too big for the pack but good for the workshop

I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it will be o.k.

I've looked at them a few times over the years and keep knocking them back. Let us know if it's any good in practise.

BTW have you created an ember yet??

I will review it soon, and yes I have created an ember and started my kindling (I was like a dog with two tails) I was amazed at just how good the fire piston is.

Sorry folks but they are useless!

I got one of these for trying to get the kitchen knives back into shape. Go careful using them on your best knives as the diamond plates may not be completely flat and will grind a very uneven edge on your pride and joy. The diamond won't last too long either.

I have a smaller set I picked up in a local diy store for two quid. I agree that they don't last long and be careful with the roughest one, its like using 80 grit sandpaper.

I think you would get a better edge if you went up and down with your knife on your jeans for five minutes.

Been using the folding type bought from the midland game fair for a few years now (cant remember the make) they are excellent but expensive (about 30 quid) but last for years and
will get a blade shaving sharp especialy if you finish it on a leather strop with honing paste'
Cheers

Confirmed what I thought I already knew. A mate had one built into his filleting board on his boat, he'd give his knife a couple of passes over it before filleting fish but always asked to borrow my knife after one or two fish.

I used to think I got a good edge with an oil stone, since I've started finishing with a glass chopping board stood on edge, car window style and my leather belt as a strop, the edges I get are much better.

very rarely had to grind or stone our knives at work, couple of passes on the steel always did the job particularly steak knives

I have a DC4 and find it very handy and slips into your pocket and is a good portable sharpener. But I'm sure you guys already know and use it. ;)
