Dear all,
Sorry to the Mods if this has already been posted but it seemed pretty important in the grand scheme of things. Basically a protest against proposed burying of nuclear waste in the Lake District:- an email I received after signing the petition.

Dear friends and supporters,

We’re overwhelmed by the support you’ve shown us for our campaign to stop the nuclear waste dump in Cumbria. The petition has hit 16,000 – and it’s still growing!

Even though the petition continues, tomorrow we’ll be handing the names so far gathered to Cumbria and Allerdale councils – and we expect them to be as overwhelmed as we are.

We’ll be joined by press and a photographer to capture this moment of people power – and we’d love you to come as well.

The more of us who come along to take a stand against the nuclear dump, the harder it will be for our views to be ignored.

If you can make it, we’ll be doing the hand in at Cumbria County Council headquarters, The Courts, Carlisle, CA3 8NA, at 2pm.

There’ll also be a hand in at 10am at Allerdale Borough Council, Allerdale House, Workington, Cumbria, CA14 3YJ at 10am.

With control of Cumbria County Council up for grabs in May, pressure is on councillors to respond to the strength of feeling and vote against proceeding with investigations into the nuclear waste dump.

The councillors in favour of pushing ahead with the dump are starting to look increasingly isolated. This is our chance to put the final nail in the coffin of the Cumbria nuclear waste dump.

Don’t forget the Ennerdale protest walk on Saturday from 11:30 at Bowness Knott car park. This has attracted major media interest and it’s important that we get a good turnout; see details at www.noend.org.uk

In the meantime, keep signing and sharing the petition – it’s nearly crunch time!

Hope to see you there!

As always – thank you for all your support and please keep up the hard work. Just 6 days to go!

Peter
