Here's one that's simple yet effective, find a springy branch (or take one from somewhere else and drive into the river bank) tie cord to the top of the branch and at the other end of the cord tie a toggle about 4inches long with a notch cut out so you can hook it to another toggle you drive into the ground near your branch with cord on it, the toggle you drive into the ground needs a notch cutting in it so this toggle and the toggle attached to the cord can lock in together. Now attach a fishing line with floats/bait etc to the toggle with the cord on it that's attached to branch and pull the toggle together and connect them. Now cast your line out (being careful not to set trap off) now when a fish comes along and takes the bait and tries to swim off it will pull the toggle with your fishing line and cord towards the water then it will pull the toggle from each other and the branch flies up pulling the fish (sometimes!) out the water or it keeps the line tight till you pull in the line. Hope that makes sense! Ha ha
