I've just finished a couple of large Salad Spoons I've been making as a christmas present for the mother-in-law.

It has quite a nice interesting grain. I sanded most areas to quite fine; 2500 grit! But it was quite rushed toward the end... hence only finishing it today and wrapping just in time for Christmas! :p

Very nice mate but I'm sure you should not use that stuff for carving spoons so you better send them to me just in case LOL Have a great Xmas mate :D

Full marks and admiration, Having just started my first attempt at carving I can fully appreciate the skill and time that must have gone into those salad spoons.

Awesome! How difficult did you find working with eculyptus? My parents have a massive tree that I grew from a sapling and have to chop back every year, and I've always wondered whether you could carve from it - the most I've done is make a crude walking stick from a naturally straight branch

Awesome! How difficult did you find working with eculyptus?...It wasn't the easiest but it certainly wasn't too hard, give it a go I'm sure you'll get on ok with it.

I've just realised I should have taken a shot of them side on as they had quite a nice bend to them, they sat ontop of each other quite nicely.

They did go down well; mother-in-law loved'em.

Cracking spoons mate, they look awsome.

I made my first a few days ago but it is a very basic one. I really enjoyed it and am now attempting a ladle. I will stick some pics up later of my first attempt.

A nice idea mate. A friend of mine down here in Cornwall makes some great furniture with driftwood. She travels as far as France for her supplies and was once held up at gunpoint on some secluded little beach near Devonport Dockyard by the Navy because they thought she was a terrorist taking pictures !!.

Tell yer mate the safest place if a matlow has a rifle is in front of it... or to pretend to be Iranian. Joking of course, I have to take the p1ss out of the navy as i'm x army (I think it's a law or something!) Sounds like she's doing well with having to travel for supplies though ther must be 100tn of deadfall lying on the river Dart at the moment if she's interested (not sure of the law regarding collecting it though)
