Very heavy Auror Borealis tinight. Just took this outside my house.

Too bad my dSLR is almost 10 years old...and I have hardly used it for 5 years so my teqnique leaves much to be desired. But taken in my yard 5 minutes ago, and no photo shopping...

In the upper right edge you can see the little dipper, which gives away that there was some camera shake. So need to use the timer or remeber to use a remote next time...

Focal length 28mm
f 3,5
Exposure: 10s
ISO 1600

5623

And here are some more, taken the day after the original post. I think I got the technical stuff nailed. Just need a better location and work out how to fram the pics in pitch darkness....

I experimented som with ISO settings. The first is at ISO 1600 the two next at ISO 800. That meant doubling the exposure time, but the result was more pleasant. In the middle picture I use my 1300 lumen Ultrafire XM-L C8 flashlight to paint in some more foreground light. Fun to learn my cam again.

Imagine that over your head from a hammock. And this was actually quite weak. It only appears strong due to the long exposure time. Anyway, I was out taking pictures yesterday too, but did it all very wrong, so the pics was very bad. Today I got the prinsiples of it right. Just need to fine tune. Sort of rekindling an old interest :-)

There is a good chance you will this year. Very strong aurora is forecast, and tonights was forecast to be visible as far south as northern England. But I only got the tail end of it as it was cloudy most of the evening. And typically right now there is not a cloud to be seen, but no Aurora...

Aurora Borealis is unfortunally not a common sight as far south as Denmark - but I have been lucky experiencing it a few times during cold clear winter nights away from too much light pollution.

Unfortunately we have a Statoil office complex right behind our house, which is floodlit. That is why the forest in the foreground is so visible. I have to take the car up on a nearby mountain to get away from the lights. Will do so in winter I think, and take some pictures.
