Well the other day I just picked up this new commission for a mortar and pestle. Being made from maple the pestle I have not started yet though may be made from apple. I am not getting money for this one as is a barter job but getting almost better than money having a buddy custom forge me a crooked knife and the lady buying this from me is also getting me a Wetterlings 10 inch axe and that will be my main carving axe not gonna use as a camp chopper just keep with my carving tools

And she is done maple for the bowl and the pestle is black walnut fully oiled. I had an idea to do up some runes carved into it and these have more a special meaning to the lady so these are the ones chosen.

Cool idea, especially the bartering. These are handy things to have, I have one also but it's green marble, use it occasionally for crushing peppercorn when I need a lot of it, for jerky. Never thought to make a wooden one, then again I don't do much carving (too messy for my daily sit), but did carve a wooden spoon for my buddie's wife a few weeks ago while camping. Turned out well enough my buddy decided to start trying to carve a fork! Lol

It does benefit in special ways, you get something offered you might not likely pay cash to actually get. One of my Scout knives I made and sold, the client owns an army surplus store, offered me a brand new Jetboil as part trade for his knife, I finshed off the remaining amount by getting him to send me a second US ranger blanket (aka poncho liner) because I loved the first one I got from him so much (literally a brilliant and addictive piece of gear). So, shipped and total cost amount balanced out perfectly, we both got something awesome. As said, I likely wouldn't have bought a Jetboil for $120, but trading I could deal with, and I have to say it is a pretty awesome piece of lightweight gear, both for heating up vinegar outside to force a knife patina, to making coffee while camping, or pine needle tea whenever I get some needles. Handy to have in my 4Runner full time.

carefull with those Runes. There are rules...

Know how to carve them,
know how to read them,
Know how to stain them,
know how to prove them,
Know how to pray them,
know how to sacrifice them,
Know how to send them,
know how to erase them
