Here is a few pics of a little Fire lighting/tinder kit I made up,it's kind of a blend of handmade and vintage gear.I made the tinder pouch which is roo hide and the large size antler firesteel. The folding knife is a vintage tradition Pocket Knife.I did not make the flint and steel striker and the "log cabin" tin is a vintage tobacco tin...

Nice looking kit there Ozhaggishead. I keep thinking I should have a proper flint and steel. Maybe this year, but then again...

I'm loving that! Mines realy bad compared to that you've got a great kit there. With the traditional flint strikers it always gives me a feeling of pride when the fire's finaly going. I do re-enactments of british history from viking through to victorian as a hobby and for a living and my tudor one is actualy realy good. Theres viking finds in york of ones realy like the antler striker found in some blokes grave. Great kit it just looks good aswell. Did you use linen or cotton for your charcloth? Whenever I use cotton it burns and just turns to ashes.

Awesome kit mate! I also use old jeans for my charcloth. I prefer the heavier material, seems to keep a coal better the heavier it is.

I try paperbark for char that kind of worked okay,I have a go at some local fungus.I need to see if I can get some old school lamp wick and use that for char cloth.
