I'd be surprised if you get a positive ID without some foliage Ben.

Cheers Martin I will see what happens and if not I will take another pic later in the year but I hope I recognise it by then LOL

...I hope I recognise it by then...

Call it Bob and say hello to him every time you go outside. You'll be surprised how little time it takes to get to know him.

It can't be called Bob, it's clearly female. Its name is Twiggy. :p

Is that a yellow flower? Woody old growth? Dark green new growth?
Pointing towards winter flowering jasmine if so.... I have one, but bigger, and this is what it looks like at the ass end of winter...

Don't think it is jasmine, the leaf buds on this are alternate, be interesting if you could roll out one of the larger leaf buds and post a pic

Not an expert on plants Ben but there was a plant similar to that in my parents garden that was Broom. I much prefer Martin's twiggy though.. Dave

You see, even when we haven't got a clue, we still manage to make a thread go on to a second page. :p

I guess Broom http://www.pfaf.org/user/Plant.aspx?LatinName=Cytisus+scoparius

Twiggy is a great guess though.. Probably a better guess than mine..

My God, what a plant! Is there anything it can't do/be used for?

Now if it was me, I'd be calling it George W. Although, having said that, I might be inclined to sling some weedkiller on it then!

Can you give us a picture from further away to see the shape of the plant?

Not sure if Bens gardening skills are that great so chances are that the bush has died since this post was started about ten months ago :p

Bush recognition is hardly an appropriate subject for public discussion I feel. Particularly when the names of certain ladies are being ascribed to the bush. Don't misunderstand me, I was an avid student of bush recognition in my younger days, but I only ever discussed what I had learned with close confidants.
