Just a few little whittling projects that I've done over the past few months...

First attempt at a feather, wood was sub-standard but I learnt a few things :)

Second attempt at a Feather...

Third attempt at a Feather...
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0TBmUMUAkCM/TuTMWhcBroI/AAAAAAAAEOY/hNdTncEKwVs/s640/IMG_0275.JPG https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-LRoHWt21A58/TuTMYHQxGhI/AAAAAAAAEOc/AthJOe01PAg/s640/IMG_0277.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-SLD9_ZTPNnw/TuTMboqlvaI/AAAAAAAAEOo/SlskzavXvXU/s640/IMG_0280.JPG https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-zK4Hxe2CD8o/TuTMZpthWXI/AAAAAAAAEOg/ZTW-lrJH5pE/s640/IMG_0278.JPG

I don't think the photos of the third feather above quite do it justice, it looks/feels nicer in person, the middle is thicker and it thins out nearer the edges. I really like this feather, it's my favourite one so far so I will be saving it to give to Claire for Christmas! .. hopefully she isn't reading this post :p

Spoon with leaf handle...

Who's been a busy bee then...

I'm not much of a carver yet, I'm still making the transition from bigger carpentry style woodwork to green wood and smaller tools so I'm full of praise for those can carve like this but I will get there.

I like the feathers, not seen others like it around, one of them would look great mounted onto a pen nib and matched to a nice carved ink well...

Paul.

Thanks for all the encouragement guys, I just wish I had a bit more of an arty eye to do stuff like wood-spirits etc. I'm not actually very creative I just reproduce what I see!

More great carving Ash.
This could end up morphing into a whittling forum:rolleye:Hey! It's an integral part of Bushcraft!.. Once you've got the whittling'bug you won't stop round the campfire.

Paul.I want to make the transition to larger green wood working eventually, I've made my shave-horse in the Garden just need to make the pole lathe now!

As for the feathers, I saw these images online and they inspired me to give it a go and try to make something similar...

The first feather was a piece of Elder, god knows why I was using that, wasn't good for the project but it was just one of those impromptu whittles! Happy with how it turned out for my first feather though. http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/images/smilies/redface.png

2nd & 3rd Feather - Birch.

The spoons are Hazel.

I was meandering through You Tube tonight looking at some stick making and took off at a bit of a tangent and came across this short Vid on carving a feather out of cotton wood, it's a good vid for taking away some ideas & tricks for those who are into carving feathers.
