Spoon is pretty much done just need to do a tad more final sanding that will come tomorrow and head to wally world for some oil Looks really good and have to say this is the first real spoon I have made with a hook knife. :D to be honest though she's almost more on the side of a small ladle specially the shape of the handle and depth of the bowl but I am rather happy the way it turned out

Yeah often wondered if ya could taste them after being oiled though the birch one I made for someone as a gift might just see if he wants to finish it off himself the maple one is more decorative anyways so won't matter much LOL

There is something wonderful about the way wood takes on colour from things like oil and black tea or coffee. I read somewhere the Saami christen a Kuksa by using black tea and Akvavit in it for the first drink. Last time I stayed with the in laws I got fed up of their diet of ready meals and cooked us a curry. I went out and bought all the spices and the olive oil, I even had to buy onions as it's not something they keep in the house. The next day I was looking for the wooden spoon I'd used and the mother in law said she'd thrown it out as the spice and turmeric in the oil had stained it. Probably the only time that spoon had ever been used as well! Who's ever heard of a single use wooden spoon? Don't know why I'm submitting this as it was a shop bought spoon, nothing like those beautiful examples pictured.
