View Full Version : How does the Mora plastic sheath clip the knife in place?

I'm completely baffled by how the plastic sheath that comes with a knife like the Mora 840 MG, manages to hold the knife with a soft "click" when inserted.

Has anyone (who might have replaced theirs with a leather sheath) cut one open to see how it works? I'm not cutting mine open because I like the sheath and my leather-working skills don't exist to make a replacement.

Not to good on technical terms Bernie but if you look inside the sheath you will see the part of the handle nearest the sharpened part of the blade pops into a slight curved recess in the ribs inside.:confused2:

I have a Mora 840 and I'm not confident that the built in soft click retention system is good enough to hold it when wearing it around camp etc and so I have put a small bungee loop thought the top of the belt loop and over the top of the knife handle... Actually, the little bungee loop came off the zip of a fleece I bought...easy to lift off the bungee and works a treat.
