I've been at it again - I've made another Youtube film!
This one is a spoon carving vid.
As ever, your thoughts and opinions are always welcome.

Nice little spoon. I think you made the same mistake I first made - carving with the grain with the hook knife. I was shown that initial cuts are far more efficient and effective across the grain, then smoothed out with the grain from either end into the bottom of the bowl.

Great that you got out and had a nice time, and I really liked the music. It was very appropriate for today (Remembrance Sunday).

I was using the Dremel because I carved the spoon out of a bit of seasoned oak - it was rock hard!

Why did I use seasoned oak? Well, I didn't intentionally. I didn't want to chop off a fresh branch just to carve a small spoon, so I thought I'd use a bit of wood from our fire pile in the shed. Most of which is ash. But I managed to grab one of the few pieces of oak...
The Dremel was just to make an extremely tough job a bit easier.
Rest assured, if it had been a bit of fresh (or just softer) wood I would have been a real man like you other real...er...men.

Nice spoon loved the music to. Only thing I do know for spoons and other eating/food use utensils linseed oil isn't good to use for it better using a vegetable oil or walnut oil I been told and what I have read as well

No worries bout using a dremel I have used it myself on my first couple though be honest rather do it manual even with hard wood
Cheers Jim
