You want the fire piston paulthefish2009. There are a few threads on here about them, alternatively give it a google. :)

You want to stop smoking; that'll solve two problems! ;)

Oh, alternatively, why not put some matches in a waterproof container and leave those in your fishing gear?

And, don't listen to Bernie. If you want to suffer a long, slow, painful, self inflicted death then it's entirely your right to do so.

you could rub the roller that sparks the flint on a lighter and you'll notice that some small pieces of flint fall out like dust,if you do it slowly and let the flint dust fall into a rizzla paper until you've got a line of it half way down the rizzla, then spark the lighter into the rizzla and it'll light,it'll work on the paper from a cigarette too(bit wasteful but desperate means !) it works on toilet roll too if you use only one of the ply's from a piece but if ya give them up all together you'll feel like a new man after a couple of weeks :)

peace,ken :)

Thanks everyone,a few good ideas there, like the idea of a fire piston(started to make one at work today!)tried the flint dust and rizla trick and it works but not so sure about outside on a wet and windy day.Yes i know i could carry a spare lighter etc and i normally do but i just thought as my first post i would see if anyone could come up with something a bit more bushcrafty(is that the right word?) Nice one Paul, and don't listen to this lot about quitting smoking. The first time I went out walking, after giving up smoking after 30 years, I sat down to make a brew. Got my stove out, filled the can with water and went to my pocket to get my lighter..... Doh!!!

Never made the same mistake since mind you. I always have a fire steel in with my stove so I don't have the problem again. :)
