Help with strop?

I have three birch polypore, I collected today, one large 8"+, one 6" and another 4".

How can I make the larger one into a strop, what do I do?

Also is it true it is useful for making fire, because I've heard mixed reports.

Them strops are really good but I can never cut it good enough to leave it smooth.

Cut it as best you can. If the fungi is still wet all the better. Place between two clean sheets of ply and squeeze up in a vice. Not two tight. Keep an eye on it as it dries making sure it does not rot. Cheers...J
