I've been visiting this website for a couple of years, and I am still impressed by the quality of video and music (which Terry does himself). It is a site specialising in wild camping in the UK, and as there have been one or two posts recently regarding getting into wild camping and the legal aspects, I thought I'd draw everyone's attention to it.

Make sure you watch some of the videos, as they are pure works of art for folks like us, and they always give me a "hankerin' fer the hills" which I used to enjoy in the pre-marital 1990s. Please follow the link:

I never knew wild camping was illegal in England and Wales. Must be my olive green tent that's kept me out of trouble all these years. Funny how we think of ourselves as having so many freedoms and yet in reality we have so few. I guess it's kept that way to allow the authrities to move travellers on.

Well that's just it - in reality we do have the freedom, because the law (civil not criminal) is clear on paper, but providing we behave correctly, responsibly, and considerately, we can "get away" with wild camping as we give the landowner no reason to act or object. The law stands as leverage against travellers or pimmel-kopfs who snap down trees for a fire and walk away in the morning leaving broken beer-bottles and ripped-up fences. There are higher laws than those drawn-up by national governments, and these are the most important ones to adhere to.

I've followed a few of Terry's vid's in the last year or so, he's very good and inspired me to "go it alone" on the Brecon Beacons for my first stealth wild camp back last summer...!

It's nice when these techno gizmos and interweb can spiritually move us and inspire one into action. It almost makes up for the constant frustration and outrageous unreliability they usually serve up!
