I have only been down on the south moors once, we walked a fair way that day and ended up camping down at piles copse, the pics are on the post titled 10-10-10. We walked along the old tram line to get back to the car, I have looked at some pictures at burator reservoir it looks really nice down there. Am I right in saying the North moor is a bit more sparse?

Generally speaking, yes, but I like some of the views more on the North moor, mainly because there are so many tors to get a good view. There seem to be more settlements in the South. Each have their good points and bad points really. Nothing to make me say one was better than the other anyway. I saw the post you're on about. I don't think I've been that far to the west yet. Mainly get just past Red Lake and stop lol. Avon Dam is an ok place, naturally stocked with trout and you can take a dip in it when it's warm enough.
