This is made from ash its 1360 mm long and approximately 30mm wide at the top tapering down to 25mm. I fitted it with a rubber ferrule as i think these give a better grip and are easier to replace than brass although i could quite easily put a brass one on. The grip is carved to look like basketwork and was then sanded down to give a very secure and smooth grip. the greenman is the first ive carved and the "shield" is a piece of fallow deer antler left blank to carve initials or a motif into. The colour was acheived through alot of staining and sanding. The two bands were carved, drilled, painted and then oiled over to look like steel bands.

Well its my version of a greenman yes, i do try and do other versions as well. I've just about finished another ash stick, this one's got a leather thong handle and celtic designs carved into it, i'll put some pics up when its finished.

Just finished making a mini walking stick for my little un - she likes to copy me when we are out in the woods.

Thought I'd take the opportunity to post a pic of my trusty pole :p.

Both are made from Hazel that I cut last October. They're very simple in design, notch at the top to use as pot holder/tarp pole, smoothed hand position, notches at every inch from the bottom leading to a single ring at a foot, followed by a double ring at 50cm and another double ring at 1m, so can be used as a rough tracking pole for measuring tracks etc.
