So whats the film about?
Into the Wild is a film based on a true story, the trip of Christopher McCandless a 24 year old lad who's passion and love for the wilderness and nature led him to travel to Alaska and live on his own in the wilds, surviving off the land and providing for himself. Unfortunately he died after approximately four months by what looked like starvation.*
Most of the film is about his vast journey and how he came to be in the place he was. He was succesful in education graduating from University in 1990, McCandless ceased communicating with his family, gave away his savings of $25,000 to Oxfam and began traveling, later abandoning his car and burning all the money in his wallet. For two years he travelled across more than 30 states and prepared for his lifetime trip to Alaska.
What did I think about the film?
I really enjoyed it, it was an epic journey and exciting to watch. I was also surprised to see how much other people enjoyed it; the wife & other family members really enjoyed watching it. I knew the film was coming thanks to BushcraftUK however I wasn't expecting it to hit the cinemas, I heard that it wouldn't be that big of a film, I looked forward to seeing it regardless just for the bushcraft / surviving aspect, but it was nice to see a mainstream uptake allowing more people to see it.
I know there are mixed feelings about the story itself, there are some people that dont like the hype the story has recieved and they think Chris was stupid and unprepared. Whether he was unprepared or not I shall not argue, it was a nice story to watch, to see his journey's and desires, his passion for the wilderness and literature and to see the path he took. It was nice to see his personality and love for life, how he interacted with people and would sometimes see life in a different way.
The actor who played Christopher McCandless (aka Alexander Supertramp) was Emile Hirsch and I think he did a very good job, suited the part well.
The film also has a superb soundtrack to it, the music compliments it very well and I ended up buying the soundtrack because I really enjoyed it.
Personally I think the film is really good and well worth watching or buying on DVD. What did others think? Well...
IMDB's Rating shows 61,716 people voted and it got a 8.2/10 which sounds pretty good to me.

Regards McCandless Death
*McCandless wrote in his journal about extreme weakness and blamed it on "potato seeds", there is much controversy around his death, some argue he accidentally poisoned himself (possibly by mis-identifying a plant) or others say he just died because of starvation.
