    A couple for the weekend

Made a kestrel for a hunting buddy, he wanted English walnut scales made from something quite specific... The broken stock of his old shotgun! Got a good few scales out of it with a rip saw so made its bigger brother the Buzzard too (that ones homeless and on sale at BCUK) also been a good test of my new belt grinder, scandi grind on the Buzzard and full flat on the kestrel.

    Kestrel is 2.8mm PSF27

Buzzard is 3.8mm VG10. Have to also thank my local uni for letting me use a timed induction kiln, meaning I can play around with more exotic steels and to the engineering lecturer for showing me how to use it, and all for the price of some homebrew sloe gin. Thoroughly nice chap!
    Thanks for looking

That wood is gorgeous mate , another excellent job.
Can we have a pic of both together for scale?
    Kestrel is smaller isn't it?
    Lovely work
    👍

Cheers woody the kestrel is smaller yeah, kind of large neck knife size. Actually looking at them they would make a nice companion set!

    Thanks for that pic Mick.
It's easier for me to compare both now...
They do indeed compliment each other very well !
Loving the walnut here, the Kestrel will have to be a dark one for me.
    Xmas list updated...

Haha, well hopefully I'll be sending one off to Santa for you eh?! Bearing in mind they all turn out very slightly different (I draw it up cut it and grind it by eye) but the proportions will be very similar and fingerguards nigh identical

If there are no women around and a man says something, is he still wrong?
