Pencil sharpener wood shavings.
In this video is an excellent idea, using a pencil sharpener, to make quick and easy wood shavings for fire starting.
When I found out that violin pegs are shaped using a custom made (dimensionally) pencil sharpener I thought I had seen it all, but this is a class idea.

I should also add, I love this guys sense of humour, he is massively knowledgeable but enjoyability factor is probably down to taste.

always carry a pencil sharpener just for that reason.

I think it's a great little addition to a survival kit. Feather sticking isn't hard, but I'm trying to imaging some sort of injury would be easier with this.

When I originally posted the video I done so while watching it. I paused the video, then copy and pasted the link just after the relevant section. Maybe it automatically done a paste at current timecode. If so you may have got it starting from just after. I'll keep that in mind for future.
When I play directly in the forum it plays from the start but mobile devices work different, all that stuff is beyond my knowlege.

Weren't older pencil sharpeners made of magnesium?

I just read through the wikipedia page on pencil sharpeners and there's no mention of magnesium so it can't be true. Ok, seriously, if this is right enough and anyone has a source to them please share the link, that would be fantastic.
