I found these yesterday wen scouting for amadu fungus

It is hard to judge as there is no scale but it looks like some kind of gall.
When I first saw it I thought; possibly the remains of an Earth Star Puff Ball - Images here. However then reading Justin's comments a Gall seems more logical.
How hard / firm was it? Quite woody?

They were about 7cm across by 5cm high. I found 4 three of which was quite hard and woody and one witch was soaked and very soft with a skin like feeling. Thanks for the help guys
Did you see any tiny footprints leading away from the site?
Could be Velociraptor eggs...
