    Woods safe to cook with.

Hi all as I'm getting out more and more I've started to pass my bits I'm learning onto the scouts. But when we was doing marshmallows over the fire I was thinking if we was to use green sticks from the wood is there any type of tree not to use and reason why please I.e ivy because it's poisonous etc.

    Thankyou in advance

We have a abuundant cedar here and while it is one of the best wet weather fuels and doesnt get punky lying on the forest floor, direct cooking of the flames imparts a bad flavor. Such as roasring a joint, hot dogs or marshmallows. We have to be careful about oak in case there is mistletoe on it. We were told not to bur mistletoe.
