the lowest setting on ours says 80 which is what i used, not sure what that is in gas, just keep an eye on it,if it starts scorching turn it down.
there is another trick of boiling in salt water, the salt breaks down the cell structure within the wood and draws moisture though your limited to the size of wood you can fit in a pot.
i tried this on a piece of beech and the water ended up red with the sap, really did dry it out...atb kev

Dry it in stages of no more than 1-2 minutes at a time in a microwave if it will fit.
Let it cool in between stages.
Wood carvers and turners do this to dry the wood quicker, yes it does work I have done it myself, be careful not to overcook, less is more.

Yeah I've chatted with Rob since, I was telling him about when I was trying to force-dry lots of hazel drills for doing bow-drill workshops with kids I put numerous in the oven on low for about 2-4 hours I think it was, worked a treat actually.

Obviously with force-drying you risk warping or cracking but I had a good success rate. I would always advise drying evenly from a pre-heated oven as oppose from one side (like sat on top of a heater) as the un-even heat is more likely to warp them etc.
