The last time I heard one was the end of April and beginning of May this year. I must be lucky as I hear them every year and have done for the the last 47 years. Out o the 47 years I have only seen them a hadfull o times.

I'm not sure, but I heard a bird in the trees today very early, it sounded like a "Cuckoo", "Cuckoo". Don't know much about birds though.
Yep, ol' woodies coos can be a bit like that, especially the adolescent ones that haven't quite mastered it.
we were all in the site hut having our lunch one day when one of the labourers said "that owl is up late". He thought that the wood pigeons cooing were owls.. How we laughed..

Heard the first cuckoo of the year last Thursday (13th) on the edge of South Dartmoor. Always a great milestone in the changing seasons.
