Thread: 4 season hammock tarp

    4 season hammock tarp

Hi just recently finished a four season hammock tarp sewing project-
Thought I would share some of the pics.
Using DIY Gear Tarp project dimensions
I bought the material from DIYGear Supply in the US even with postage it worked out quite cost effective.
The only thing that needed fine tuning was the sealing of the ridge seam. One tube of Seam Grib did the job
and I have tested with a hose pipe no probs. The only downside is it is not lightwieght.
Only used it one weekend this Oct and was toasty

    Nice job, looks great

Although (If you're a guy) you should be calling it a "Bench Top Thread Injector"

[edit] Actually you didnt mention anything about a sewing machine, Guess I jumped gun and read between lines lol.

Good looking tarp, if I may ask what was the total cost for the materials. Cheers Bri

Yes sorry I was using a four stroke 650cc thread injector at the time haha.

I followed the DIY hammock gear plans using 9yds of material. i got some on offer @ $2.95.per yd + other bits but because of customs anything over £15.0 gets duty. SoI split the order into two and did the lot with two orders of close to $23 each. In that I got the thread, material 'd' rings etc and even some 'y' pegs for good measure. Took all of a day and a half to do because there is a lot of material to handle. Real cosy though.

Looks awesome! is that similar to this?
If it is I'm planning doing it soonish as well providing my sewing skills are up to the challenge. what is the actual weight and pack size of it?
I got a dd 4x4 tarp as I didn't trust the 3x3 to fully cover my hammock plus suspension to the free end/drip line of the whoopie but it's really huge and v.heavy.

    Thanks Craige,
Yes those are the plans I worked to. To be honest it is big - but there is a lot of coverage though, which is what I wanted. When it is fully set up it keeps out a lot of wind with loads of room. The down side is weight but because I mostly car camp it is not an issue. What would be good is to find a supplier in the uk for Cuben Fiber then you would have a very lightweight option.
There are a lot of tarps out there, have you looked at the Hennessy Hex, Warbonnet Superfly or the Mosquito Cammo?
UK Hammocks sell the Warbonnet superfly, which the one I would go for if not making your own I think it weighs in at 19oz

    Thanks Shewie,
Just realised I did not say the weight and size - I will weigh it and take some shots to post them in the next day or so.

Yeah I plan to make the hex tarp as well as this but yours does look really good. A German website sells cuben here: http://www.extremtextil.de/catalog/C...g-qm::587.html
    It is v.expensive though!

Was that the weight for yours or the wbsf?
