    Hi Ben
I used my small dremal tool with a cutting disc . Only took a couple of minutes.
Then used the cut out as the base for holding the Hexie's

    LOL Ben
It is thin enough that you could use a hacksaw or a set of tin snips to cut it with.
    Shouldent take to long
Nice project for a rainy day (Gettin plenty of them round here at the moment
    Cheers

Nice one Al! I still haven't done anything with the one I made.........

One thing I saw someone did was use a fold up metal food steamer as a base....

.... just remove the stem in the middle. It acts as a shield to protect the surrounding ground, helps focus the heat up, catches embers/ashes, as well as allows air to get to the bottom of the stove.

Mike - you've confirmed something I was wondering about these folding food steamers actually being used as a fire base (keep your fire site tidy without rocks etc) when I saw one in .....

(to answer you Al - see below also) .... Sainsbury's (i think it was about £5). But wasn't confident enough to know if it would work or was the dreams of someone who has suddenly gone household shopping and used to hate it (albeit I now look at items and think "now is that a stove, billy can, or charcoal maker") and caught up in the in-store muzak!!

Thanks Mike you've now found a good ash colector base for my woodstove

    Al - found this http://www.suntekstore.co.uk/goods.p...tm_source=gbuk
