    "Teapot Handle" Beech Tree

I was out walking in a Gwent Wildlife Trust conservation wood last weekend and came across this amazing beech which had a side bough that had grown out and grown back in again to form a 3ft tall "handle" on the side of the main trunk.

Has anyone ever seen this type of tree grown before ?

I have a sycamore in my back garden where two trunks grew close together. One of those trunks started to mould around the other throughout its length and in just a couple of years has almost completely surounded it. There is only what looks like a long scar running up the trunk at the moment but I don't think that will be around for long.
